Auto insurance

Auto insurance that fits how you drive

Cars, trucks, motorcycles and teen drivers, compared across multiple carriers. We help you choose limits that protect your savings, not just the legal minimum.

The parts of a Texas auto policy

Every auto policy combines a few distinct coverages. Understanding each one makes it much easier to compare quotes fairly.

Liability

Pays for injuries and property damage you cause to others, along with legal defense. Texas requires at least 30/60/25 in liability limits ($30,000 per injured person, $60,000 per accident, $25,000 for property damage), and many drivers choose higher limits because a serious accident can exceed those amounts quickly.

Uninsured / underinsured motorist

Helps pay for your injuries and, depending on the policy, your vehicle damage when the at-fault driver has no insurance or not enough. Texas insurers must offer this coverage, and it can only be declined in writing, so it is worth a careful look before turning it down.

Personal injury protection (PIP)

Helps pay medical bills and a portion of lost wages for you and your passengers regardless of who caused the accident. Texas requires insurers to include at least $2,500 of PIP unless you reject it in writing. Medical payments coverage is a similar option some drivers use alongside or instead of PIP.

Collision

Pays to repair or replace your own vehicle after a crash with another car or object, minus your deductible. If you have a loan or lease, your lender will usually require it.

Comprehensive

Covers damage from things other than a collision, such as hail, theft, flooding, fire, falling objects and animal strikes. In Texas, hail alone is a strong reason many drivers keep comprehensive on newer vehicles.

Optional extras

Rental reimbursement, roadside assistance and gap coverage for financed vehicles can fill practical gaps. We will show which ones are available and what they cost on each quote.

Why the state minimum often falls short

Minimum liability limits are designed to meet the legal requirement, not to fully protect you. If you cause an accident with serious injuries or damage to a newer vehicle, costs can exceed a 30/60/25 policy, and you could be personally responsible for the difference. Raising your limits is often less expensive than people expect, and we will show minimum and higher-limit options side by side so you can see the real price difference.

Uninsured motorist coverage deserves the same attention. Not every driver on Texas roads carries insurance, and when one of them causes a crash, your own UM/UIM coverage may be what pays for your injuries. We will explain how UM/UIM and PIP work together so you can make an informed choice rather than rejecting them by default.

Teen drivers, multiple vehicles and bundling

Adding a teen driver is one of the biggest changes to a household’s auto premium. Different carriers price young drivers very differently, and some offer good-student or driver-training discounts, which is exactly where shopping several companies helps. We can also review how your vehicles and drivers are assigned to keep the policy accurate and fair.

Many carriers offer a discount when you insure your home and autos together, and bundling can also simplify claims and renewals. We will compare bundled and separate options honestly; sometimes keeping policies with different companies is the better value, and we will tell you when that is the case.

Why work with Prout Insurance Agency

Choice, not a single company

As an independent agency we are appointed with multiple insurance companies. That lets us compare coverage and price side by side instead of fitting you into one company’s products, and re-shop your policy if a renewal stops making sense.

Plain-English advice

We explain deductibles, exclusions and optional coverages before you buy, so there are fewer surprises later. You get a recommendation and the reasons behind it, and the final choice is always yours.

An agent who stays with you

When you add a driver, buy a new home or need help with a claim, you call the same Austin-based agency that set up your policy. We serve clients across Texas by phone, email and video.
